Cape Cod Rocks

STACY'S STORY: Familiar with the great poet, Robert Frost? Yes, well how about his well-known poem "The Road Not Taken"...our story begins quite similiarly....

"Two roads diverged in a yellow wood".... Well, it wasn't exactly a road, but rather a trail. A trail that leads you to some of the most spectacular views of the Great Marsh on Cape Cod. In any event, Rachel and I met at a fork on this trail one afternoon whilst walking our pups.

Perhaps we would have never met if Beazie, Rachel's beloved Cockapoo, didn't decide to run the other way and find himself snout-to-snout with his new best pal, Maggie McGee, Stacy's sweet Springer Spaniel. Obviously, fate had a plan for us all that beautiful Spring day. It was the beginning of many long walks coupled with inspiring conversations along the many beaches and trails of Cape Cod.

The connection was immediate and on so many levels...the love of our dogs, the natural beauty that surrounds us, the simple things in life, being present and the importance of gratitude. Within weeks a solid friendship had bloomed and from this bond the idea of Cape Cod Rocks unfolded.

We wanted to create something simple. Something real. Something unique. Something with meaning. Something inexpensive, yet that could be treasured. Something that is a little piece of the heaven we are so blessed to live on: the island of Cape Cod.

I shall be telling this with a sigh Somewhere ages and ages hence: Two roads diverged in a wood, and I— I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference..... INDEED!!!

So that's our story! Two chicks, two dogs and one sweet idea: Cape Cod Rocks! We hope our pieces bring you all the joy we receive from creating them. Enjoy!

RACHEL'S STORY: This is the story of an awesome friendship between two women. It’s also about their dogs, and one hunky husband…but let's start with women… One is Rachel Smith (who you know ;)) and Stacy McKenna, who walked her dog (Maggie) on the same beach that Rachel took Beazie every day. But it wasn’t until one afternoon when Rachel walked later because she had driven back from NYC and had a very restless puppy in the car, that everyone finally met. Beazie and Maggie were fast friends, and so were Rachel and Stacy. That very first walk lasted about 2 hours, Rachel and Stacy couldn’t stop talking! They agreed to meet the next day, on Sandy Neck beach, and the day after that, and on and on…Within a month, they considered themselves to be great friends.

The idea for Cape Cod Rocks happened because we wanted to create something to celebrate what the new friendship brought into both our lives. We wanted to make something that was inexpensive, but could be treasured. Something that was handpicked with the friend in mind, and something that reminded us of where the friendship began, on a Cape Cod beach!

The first ‘rock drilling’ session ended with us rolling on the floor, doubled over with laughter. We had the wrong equipment, and no safety goggles, so we were in Stacy’s basement with a 50 year old drill press and cheap, dark, sunglasses on. Rocks and drill bits were flying around the room, and the first rock took about 3 hours! That’s where Stacy’s amazing husband Andrew comes in. He set us up with a workshop, the drills we needed, and all the love and support we could ever ask for. He even drilled with us! So while the puppies played upstairs, we would take our collected rocks downstairs, and make our Cape Cod Rocks!

Each one has the beach it came from, along with the statement that we think fits that rock. I rock, You Rock, You Are My Rock, or Love Rocks.
