Elliott was put into the arms of two loving parents, Corissa and Brad on July 3, 2008. Up until September 10, 2008 he had been a happy and healthy little baby boy. He was the picture of health!
At his two month well-check, Corissa and Brad were happy to hear that he had doubled his birth weight, and that his head circumference matched the weight increase. He had his immunizations and went home. He was a little fussy the next day and started vomiting. Corissa and Brad didn't think too much of his symptoms as babies can have those types of reactions to immunizations. The vomiting didn't end and, actually, got worse. They were told to keep an eye on him over the weekend and call immediately if needed.
Sunday, they took him to the ER. Monday, he was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Tuesday, he was diagnosed with a kidney tumor. Wednesday, he had his kidney removed. Thursday, they rested. Friday, Elliott had his brain tumor removed.
After the tumors were removed, Elliott endured aggressive chemotherapy and a stem cell transplant. He was cancer-free for nearly a year until it returned in January 2010. He has endured six weeks of radiation and had another brain surgery to remove the tumor. Corissa and Brad are hopeful that the radiation will do its job for good.
At the time of original diagnosis, survival chances were 30 percent. With a recurring brain tumor, there is hope, but it is remote.
Every hurdle that Elliott has faced has been tackled with resilience. The Hansens have a long road ahead of them, but are confident that Super Elliott will prevail.
From Sarah Nordstrom: I grew up with Elliots dad Brad, and when I heard of their struggle and strength, I wanted to do something to help! Childrens brain cancer research and treatment is so underfunded, and any little bit of awareness we can bring is worth so much! Below are some links to learn more about how we can all help, and on my page are pieces I picked out to represent the fortitude, spirit, and endless optimism necessary to combat and conquer all forms of Cancer. I am so grateful to all that help. Thank you!
